Today Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that Highways England are working on proposals to Keep Dover Clear as the end of transition looms, and progress works on the long-awaited A2 road upgrade.
I asked the Prime Minister to ensure that traffic gridlock is avoided and that steps are taken to Keep Dover Clear through the Brexit transition period. I also pressed for work to be progressed at pace on the proposed upgrading of the A2, particularly between Whitfield and Dover’s Eastern Docks, which experience traffic congestion locally.
Free-flowing traffic in our Dover area is prioritised for residents through the Brexit transition period.
An important part of my “Keep Dover Clear” Campaign is the dualling of the A2 from Whitfield roundabout to the Port. In March, the Government included this project in its list of schemes to be developed. Today I have asked the Prime Minister to ensure this goes ahead at pace for the longer term growth and success of our area.
I have been working closely with Dover District Council and Transition Transport Minister, Rachel Maclean, on “Keep Dover Clear”’ preparations for 1 January 2021, together with plans for more investment and jobs for the area from the new border arrangements.
