Return of all day high-speed train services for Deal and the villages

Last week in Parliament, I called for the return of all-day high speed train services to Deal and the villages.

Following a reduction in train services due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Southeastern has been running a reduced service to Martin Mill, Walmer, Deal and Sandwich. But I want the train operator to restore services in full as the country gets back on its feet.

When direct, all-day high-speed services were suspended from Martin Mill, Walmer, Deal and Sandwich last year, I received assurances from Southeastern that there was no intention to remove the all-day high-speed service to these stations in the longer-term.

With the UK making great strides in its battle against Covid-19 and our roadmap out of lockdown currently on track, it is the right time to make sure that there are plans in place to fully restore the important high-speed services in line with increasing demand as we move through this year.

With the changes to working patterns at home and in the office, many people may want to work a split week. So I’ve been working with other Kent MPs to ask the Government to bring a ‘carnet’ style flexible season ticket, which combines lower prices and greater flexibility on our railways.
