I welcomed the Government’s new plan to tackle climate change. The plan includes £3.9 billion for decarbonising homes – with a new £5,000 grant for the installation of heat pumps – and £120 million for new nuclear, helping reach the ambitious targets ahead of COP 26. The Government’s plan, called the Net Zero Strategy, sets out how the UK can transition to a greener and more environmentally sustainable future.
Since 1990 the UK has nearly halved greenhouse gas emissions, while growing our economy by over 70 per cent. We have come a long way, but there is still more to do if we are to continue to lead the world in tackling climate change.
That’s why swapping carbon for hydrogen, new nuclear power stations and making use of new technology like ground source heat pumps and electric cars is so important. With far reaching plans like the Net Zero Strategy we can live in a greener, healthier world.
