Meeting with Pope’s Ambassador to the UK

I met the Pope’s ambassador to the UK, the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, at His Excellency’s first formal visit to Parliament.

With myself being a Roman Catholic, I joined other Catholic MPs and Peers at a special mass held at St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Westminster presided over by the pope’s special envoy.

It was a great honour to meet the Pope’s special ambassador. We discussed the Channel migrant crisis and the impact to Dover. I have invited his Excellency to come to Dover to meet residents with me and discuss the migrant crisis. I hope he will do so. With people dying in the Channel and lives at risk each and every day, it is vital to bring an end to these dangerous crossings.
