I was glad to back last week’s Dover Jobs Fair. The Jobs Fair organised by Dover District Council was joined by the DWP jobs taskforce rapid response team, which was brought into Dover following my request to Ministers.
The jobs fair took place on the 27th April. Around 1200 jobs were on offer at the fair. The jobs taskforce rapid response team has been active locally following the decision by P&O to sack 600 Dover ferry workers.
The council did a great job organising this jobs fair. It’s so important we do all we can to boost jobs and money locally.
Unemployment has fallen a lot – but it is not quite back to pre pandemic levels, so there is more work to do. That’s why it was great news that we were able to persuade Government ministers to provide the support of the DWP jobs taskforce rapid response team.
It’s very heartening that youth unemployed claimants are now even lower than before the pandemic began. This shows how committed our young people are to building a brighter future for themselves as well as the wider Dover & Deal community.
