I laid a wreath at the Royal Marines Memorial concert on Sunday 10th July at the Deal Bandstand in memory of the lives lost in the IRA explosion at the Royal Marines School of Music in 1989.
The Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust stages a series of public concerts on the Bandstand between May and September each year. The concerts keep alive the memory of the 11 Royal Marines Musicians who were tragically killed in the IRA bombing.
The concert included performances from the Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth (Royal Band) and an RAF Spitfire fly past.
I was honoured to lay a wreath on behalf of the community to remember the lives lost in the terrible IRA bombing.
The Deal bombers have never been brought to justice. Three decades on, it is sadly unlikely they will be held to account for their despicable acts.
Thank you to Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust for organising and holding the memorial concert. Superb music a fitting tribute to a solemn remembrance.
