Natalie Elphicke: Statement on the Kirkup report

Today’s report makes such shocking reading. These avoidable baby deaths have devastated so many Kent families, including the parents of Tallulah-Rai in Dover.

Tallulah-Rai should now have been nearly three years old. It’s so tragic that she never even got to take her first breath.

Families have fought long and hard for improvements so that other parents don’t have to go through the heartbreak and pain they have suffered. Today’s landmark report is a testament to the commitment and dedication of each and every one of them.

It is so important that East Kent Hospitals listen and learn from this report. I will be pressing local health chiefs for immediate improvements and full implementation of the recommendations of the report. As well as raising the national themes and recommendations with Health Ministers.
