One of the most rewarding parts of being an MP is being able to help people with their personal and important cases and concerns. The job of an MP is to serve the community, be a vital link between constituents and the Government and to be someone who people can turn to when they most need help. With my constituency and Parliamentary teams, I work hard day in day out to help constituents and get the difficulties people experience sorted out.
One of the biggest issues people raise with me is problems with housing. From issues of damp and mould, to long waiting lists, we are regularly in touch with the council to ensure that these are issues are raised and dealt with as quickly as possible. I care deeply about housing and preventing homelessness – these are issues I campaign on at a national as well as local level. One recent case involved a single parent family who faced being made homelessness on a Friday night. They got in touch and we worked swiftly with the council to ensure the family had a roof over their head that night.
We are also regularly asked to help people who having financial difficulties. Whether it’s delays in receiving welfare payments or disputes over the amount due, we take swift action to contact the relevant authorities and let people know their case is being looked into. Recently a constituent received a back payment very quickly once they had contacted me after previously waiting months to hear back from the authorities.
It’s making a real difference to people’s lives like that that makes me most proud of the work we do. If you are facing financial worries, there is a range of Government and local support available. The cost of living help hub on my website and my dedicated team are there to support you in finding out what additional support may be available.
Many residents worry about health services in our area. Fighting for better healthcare in Dover and Deal is something I work on tirelessly. I have met with our local mental health teams to see what more can be done to support our community and help people whose cases are often incredibly sensitive. We not only offer support and advice, such as helping people access their GP, but also serve as a friendly face and always try to be there for people who are having mental health troubles.
If you, or someone you know, is struggling, we are always ready to help and will always do our best to provide support. We cannot guarantee a successful outcome, but we will always do our very best. You can get in touch over email, on the phone or face to face at one of my regular MP surgeries. Do also keep an eye on my website to find out more.
